Also i got to mc on pirate radio and internet radiowith Djs Bizza, MATT adn Whitecoat. I started makin my own beats as too many producers went on too long! Then Terra and me put out ‘In England’ on limited-press vinyl, sold them all, then Terra did ‘Gogo’ on vinyl, then we recorded ‘Human Trash’ as a mix cd and sold 22,000 of that on the streets of the uk. Also i worked with Mentor Kolektiv and featured heavily on the album ‘Broke’. I got to tour India, Germany, France, Norway and the UK thru doin music. Then Terra and me made ‘Youthanasia: Escape from the Land of the Wastemen’ and that has now shifted 15,000 copies. I had videos get in the top 10 on Channel U/AKA, Zee Music, B4U, MTV BASE.

‘Human Trash’ with Terra.  ‘Broke’ with Mentor Kolektiv. ‘Youthanasia’ with Terra, repackaged now as ‘Escape from the Land of the Wastemen’.

Ricta Interview

January 7, 2010

We catch up with rising UK rapper Ricta. This dude is sure to be a big name in the future!

How did you first start rapping?

I started out as a DJ when i was around 12 – 13 and began my journey into Hip Hop going back through the years and schooling myself on the whole culture , i was and still am a real fan of the music and the culture , i think like a lots of kids i went through it all until something stuck graffiti , b-boying etc, rap was what i took all the way serious it is what just came natural to me you could say.

Who were your main influences when you were first starting doing music?

My music idol from a little kid was Michael Jackson i thought he was the dopest ! At the very beginning i was big into cats like House Of Pain , Cypress Hill , Wu-Tang all that 90’s stuff we love and the more i dug into the music the more i would find out about new artists and the underround legends like pun , big l etc,. i had a heavy influenece from our scene in the UK too people like rodney p , london posse , jehst , tommy evans …. but that came later…

Who do you listen to, and who do you respect in the rap game today?

Im still a massive Hip Hop fan , i love it , from you know Pete Rock & CL , Souls of Mischief im a real golden era head , souls of mischief just dropped their new album and its dope ! so much legacy ! I also I think Jemini The Gifted One is one of the most slept on cats to do it , to me his style is one of a kind , I think Termanology is on the best MC’s to come out in recent times , i listen to everything though you know as long as its ill.

What projects have you had out in the past?

Up until this point ive put out to mixtapes the first ‘General No One’ which went out in 2007 and the second ‘ The Rictape’ which went out in 2008 , since then ive done a string of one off online releases and tracks but just working hard and building my rep up  , much love to everyone who cops my shit ! , I love live shows and sometimes to me doing shows is a lot more exciting than recording a mixtape or album .

Which would you say has been the best received, and where can we cop it from?

Definatley the Rictape , it has got me a lot of exposure and different oppurtunities to get to where im at but there still a lot more to be done and this is really just the beginning or as Winston would say the end of the beginning , if you wanna cop the Rictape you can head over to my Myspace @ www.myspace.com/therealricta or peep your favourite pirate music destination and im sure you’ll find it.

What are you working on now?

Right now im working on my new EP called Expocate  (Expose , Then Re-Educate) , the material so far is crazy , Iv’e got a track on their called Hero which is produced by Kelakovski and is super ill im really really happy with it so far , the EP’s gonna be dropping before summer ’10 make sure you cop that !

If you could work with anybody in the game, who would it be and why?

Preemo , Pete Rock no doubt , also Marco Polo so dope.

Endemic Interview

January 6, 2010

We catch up with heavy UK producer, Endemic!

So, how did you first start producing?

I started producing around the end of 2004, I had been djing since 96 and a few of the local mcs at the time wanted me to start making them tracks

Who were your inspirations back in the day when you first started?

I’d say producers such as rza, dj muggs, dr dre, showbiz, premier, pete rock etc, and rap acts such as wu tang, boot camp clik, epmd, public enemy, nine, geto boys etc..  I was inspired by all of the classic 90s music even though it was 2004, I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of the new era of hip hop music.

Which producers do you like and admire now?

Bronze Nazareth, kevlaar 7, snowgoons, marco polo.

If you could choose any rapper to vocal your beats, who would it be and why?

I’d probably say method man, I like to producer super hard tracks and if he was on his Tical 94 mind state it would probably come out nice.

Who have you worked with, and where can we hear the tracks?

the likes of – ruste juxx, sean price, killah priest, ill bill, smif n Wesson, hell razah, torae, skyzoo, planet asia, supreme (boot camp clik), timbo king, bronze Nazareth, the wisemen, triple darkness, one click bang, leathafase, sav killz, killa sha, reek, darkim be allah, buddah monk, cappo, scorzayzee, iron braydz, c-mone, lee ramsay, letia larok, sima lee, masikah, 34 click (France) & many more.

You can check out my album terminal illness with a bunch of those names features on it – http://www.undergroundhiphop.com/store/detail.asp?=Endemic-Presents-Hell-Razah-Killah-Priest-Planet-Asia-Ruste-Juxx-Sean-Price-Timbo-King-Terminal-Illness-No-Cure-Records&UPC=MME2012CD

You can also check out my latest EP release with Cappo – the Notts mc legend, this is a collaboration project and features scorzayzee, cyrus malachi, iron braydz and lee ramsay. Its out now on 12” vinyl & digital – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDrhRO0v13Q

What do you use to produce? Instruments or software?

I like to use both and keep it fresh, I use the kontact 3 software sampler and other vsti synths, but also sometimes the emu e6400 and mpc 2000 machines.

Will you ever do, or have you already done, a whole album of work, like Timbaland or Jake One have done?

Yes, Like I mentioned previously I released an album last year via money maker / emi music usa last year. The album features killah preist, planet asia, sean price, ruste juxx cyrus malachi, m9 and more. I got flown out to New York by the label to undertake a promo tour for the album, performing in stores at the legendary Fat beats in Manhattan, and appearing on many big NY radio stations such as the DJ Eclipse show at WNYU. There was also a release party at sutra nightclub in Manhattan where hip hop legends such as blahzay blahzay came through to support.

I also just finished producing ruste juxx’s 3rd album entirely; that is coming out 2nd half of 2010 featuring Ill Bill, Smif’n’Wesson, Torae, Skyzoo, Supreme, cyrus malachi and more

Where do you want to be in five years?

I’d say to be recognized as a producer who can make great albums, This is really what I set out to do, I do sell beats and get production placements, but my main goal is work on albums and projects entirely. If you look at all the greatest producers in hip hop they all came from making classic albums entirely each with their own sound and imprint on the music. Nowadays you have 8 or 9 different producers on most albums with no coherent sound.

Where can we get in touch with you online?

Myspace.com/endemicproductions

Endemic no cure on facebook

And check out nocurerecords.com for the label

Do you have any shout outs or last words?

Shouts out to cappo – my EP with him the needle drop is out now on 12” vinyl & digital. – http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=13227584&blogId=523170373

Nfinit3 Interview

January 6, 2010

We catch up with rising producer, Nfinit3

So, how did you first start producing?

I was in college, I guess about 2001 or 2002. I was studying graphic design. Drawing and design had always been my passion up until my homie introduced me to the Justus League and 9th Wonder. When I found out 9th was only using the p.c. and a few programs to create his art, I set out to achieve a similar soulful sound with my own twist/touch on it. 8 years have passed and I think I found my place and calling with these beats.

Who were your inspirations back in the day when you first started?

I never really paid too much attention to producers outside of Preemo and Jazzy Jeff back in the day. Once I discovered 9th, it made me study other producers a bit more. So I looked at the work of Kanye, Pete Rock, Just Blaze and of course J Dilla who’s probably become my biggest inspiration on this journey.

Which producers do you like and admire now?

I still listen to 9th Wonder a lot. Black Milk and Oddisee have grown on me a lot over the past few years. Am I allowed to mention myself, I’ve grown to be a huge fan of my own work the more time has passed.

If you could choose any rapper to vocal your beats, who would it be and why?

I will answer the “why” part first, I choose this group of emcees because I’m a fan of their work and they’re still relevant/hot in my opinion. Not to mention as far as the industry goes, they know what its like to be where I am right now and they’re also where I want to be in the near future. With that said, I would love to work with Sean Price, Skyzoo, Murs, Jean Grae, Royce da 5′9, Phonte and Wale.

Who have you worked with, and where can we hear the tracks?

I’ve worked with Big T of Southernboi Ent, Phocuz (an affiliate of 9th Wonder and the Justus League), Bucky Dolla and K-Beta both from the DMV area, singer/emcee Range da Messenga,  P. Genz from New Jersey just to name a few. You can find links of all the artists I’ve worked with on my website: http://nfinit3.com on the links page. There is music on the website as well as on the artists’ myspace pages.

What do you use to produce? Instruments or software?

I’ve always been a p.c. producer. From day 1 I’ve used nothing but Cool Edit 2.0 and Fruity Loops 4, I still use the same versions of each program. I don’t see a need in moving on to newer versions when I’m still learning new stuff from the ones I have. Its like perfecting a craft. I did, however, purchase a Macbook Pro recently and have been attempting to learn Recycle, Reason and Logic but that may take some time. As far as instruments go, I’ve recently opened up to allowing musicians play on my beats or intertwining their art(s) with mine. We shall see what those results are sometime in the near future.

Will you ever do, or have you already done, a whole album of work, like Timbaland or Jake One have done?

I’ve done the mixtape, the instrumental project, even experimented with a full project of me rapping over my own production. I’ve produced two full length albums for Bucky Dolla as well as contributed beats to other folks albums and mixtapes. As far as a whole album of my own work with a variety of artists, I will just say its on the way. I’ve been working on my official debut, Make Music, for like 3 years now. I can’t tell you that its going to have any high profile artists or that theres going to be any known underground names on it, but I can promise you it will be full of soulful, good music. Not having a deal, the support from a label or financial support for such a project definitely puts a damper on how you create and present it but I’m doing the best with what I have. Its different, but its good, really good.

Where do you want to be in five years?

I just hope to be living and successful man. If it isn’t music, maybe it’ll be with my art and design, if it isn’t with art then maybe it’ll be with my writing. I just hope the world gets the chance to hear me out. I’ve always felt like I had a lot to offer in many forms so if I can share the things I love to do with the world and manage to live comfortably then thats just fine with me. I’m not out to be a “baller” or have a 10 minute slot on MTV cribs. I’m happy with doing what I do and having the bills paid.

Where can we get in touch with you online?

I’m everywhere online. I’ll just drop the links and let you all go from there. http://myspace.com/nfinit3, http://facebook.com/nfinit3, http://reverbnation.com/nfinit3, http://youtube.com/Nfinit3Music. Of course, you can always email me at nfinit3beats@gmail.com. Just google me huh.

Do you have any shout outs or last words?

As always I want to thank God for allowing me to live and lead this life, and for giving me this opportunity to share my words and music with the world. I’d also like to thank you all for taking time out to interview me. Bigups to the whole DMV area, my family and friends…and to everyone in this hectic industry pushing through the struggle…make the most of your 2010. pCe!

Truth Interview

January 5, 2010

We catch up with UK Hip Hop veteran, and Street Battle legend, Truth!

How did you first start rapping?

There wasn’t really a definitive moment when I consciously decided this was something I wanted to do. I somehow knew about Hip Hop in my primary school days, I’m not sure how much I knew about it, but I was aware of it. Where I’m from, it’s not something that is very prevalent so you’ve got to literally discover it before you consider being a part of it. The first thing I remember having an effect on me, making me want to start rhyming was Biggie’s Warning….seeing that video. Then I just used to freestyle to the 8bar intro’s of tracks trying to get as good as the “freestyles” I’d heard, as I thought they was freestyles in the purest sense of the word..then it snowballed I guess.

Who were your main influences when you were first starting doing music?

Hard to say really….just the people that were on my radar like Biggie, Talib, Mos, Pharoahe….. I was raised in the Rawkus era pretty much.

Who do you listen to, and who do you respect in the rap game today?

Listen to a whole lot of music man…trying to intake as much as possible. A lot of blues & soul music too but as far as MC’s go … right now – Jay Electronica, Mos Def, Black Thought, Blu, Elzhi, Phonte, Brother Ali, Mystro, are the ones who are doing it for me right now.

What projects have you had out in the past?

I release the Procrastinat(K)ing free download (available from www.rapsploitation.co.uk). Appeared on a couple mixtapes/free download compilations etc.

Which would you say has been the best received, and where can we cop it from?

Procrastinat(K)ing had a good reception. It’s pretty much just a demo tape…..i didn’t put a whole lot of effort into it in the sense of the mixes etc. I kinda liked that about it though. You can download that for free at www.rapsploitation.co.uk

What are you working on now?

Working with my new band called Millionaires By Morning, which I’m super excited about. Just looking forward to making some songs with them and doing a whole bunch of shows hopefully.

Keeping my nights going – Rapsploitation Sessions – which hits 3 years in February, trying to expand them and do something a little different.  It’s pretty impressive we’ve been going for 3 years in such a small town like Ipswich so might as well take some chances now!

Working on Procrastinat(K)ing 2 which will be in the same fashion as one, casual release, under a new name though. I’m definitely changing my name this year…. Then hopefully work to a  more cohesive project after that.

If you could work with anybody in the game, who would it be and why?

By in the game, I assume you mean in Hip Hop. I’ve just got to work with one of my favourite MC’s – Kashmere, so that’s one ticked off. But Pharoahe’s my favourite MC,so definitely him….but I dunno, any one I can make good music with on a level.

I started producing at 17 years old. I made beats for everybody in my hood, CROSSTOWN (downtown Orlando).I used to play my beats over the morning announcements at my school at EDGEWATER HIGH.

Alot of teachers liked the fact I sampled Orchestra and mixed them with hip hop beats to appeal to everyone. Thats when I knew I could be a problem and an asset with music.

Who were your inspirations back in the day when you first started?

Three 6 Mafia and alot of down south artists. Back then, we weren't gettin
the right shine that was due so I felt it was my duty to make a statement
with my music.

Which producers do you like and admire now?

I like DJ Toomp, Mannie Fresh, Zaytoven, Drumma Boy etc. but I like me
because I bring a new a different sound to the table.

If you could choose any rapper to vocal your beats, who would it be and why?

I would say whoever has the best impact on the streets because the streets
can tell from REAL and fake so i rather produce for someone who can touch
the streets and sound tight on my production

I worked with DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Lil Boosie, Q6, Drop, Haitian
Fresh, Big Dime, Red Dogg, Killa GorillazTriple C, Cash Chris, P.S.G's,
Shoboy, DeeBoi, Wyclef, Treal, Kevin Kendricks, Bedo, and the list will
keep going. go to www.myspace.com/phil4realmuzik or google me to see
what i made for Rick Ross and Triple C.

What do you use to produce? Instruments or software?

I use Fruity loops 4.5 and Cool Edit Pro 2.0. A lot of producers try to
make me switch my programs but I'm still successful with this and I am
still harder and more successful than those who try to make me switch.
Sorry fellas! I'm real to the core!

Will you ever do, or have you already done, a whole album of work, like Timbaland or Jake One have done?

Yea I produced Big Dime's whole mixtape. If the business is right

I used to write raps all the time during class…never really took it serious till I had my son in 2003.

Who were your main influences when you were first starting doing music?

2Pac, Snoop, Ice Cube, Jadakiss, Eightball & MJG just to name a few.

Who do you listen to, and who do you respect in the rap game today?

I think Drake is cool, Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, couple underground cats, Nas, Snoop still putting out good records…aside from them pretty much the same people i’ve been listening to…

What projects have you had out in the past?

The crazy thing is aside from me putting my “Pay-Per-View mixtape on Datpiff.com I don’t have any solo projects out, just a couple features here and there.

Which would you say has been the best received, and where can we cop it from?

I’ve been doing a lot of networking and behind the scenes work in hopes that my upcoming releases all get they due, when i put em out we’ll see how the streets accept em.

What are you working on now?

Mainly just mixtape stuff, i put together a record or 2 here and there and put it away slowly piecing together an album.

If you could work with anybody in the game, who would it be and why?

It’s actually a couple but if I had to pick just 1 i’d say Young Jeezy because i’m a fan of what he does, the hold he has on the streets and his audience is something i strive for as an artist.
